# CDXXIV…(424)…Labor Day Excerpt…for an Icon…

Being that I mentioned our would-be celebrator in my last post (about a cover song by the group Delain on their new album), I figured that the short entry from my book {link is on the blog somewhere} would pretty much sum up what I feel about this artist.

I’m just gonna leave this here…hopefully, people will buy the book before I “excerpt” my way further into obscurity (I’m already obscure so it is unnoticeable)…

# xcccii…Iconic Entertainer Lost Too Soon…

Today, September 5th, is the birthday of late Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), whose untimely death at the early spread of the deadly AIDS virus ultimately led to the current increase in the disease’s stunting (due to better preparedness).  His six-octave voice was among the most…if not THE MOST…prolific voices of my generation.

A constant bundle of energy, he formed the iconic rock group in 1970 and produced 15 albums and wrote a lot of the songs that he sang with angelic precision.  His death, which was during the years leading up to my impending fatherhood, was one of the biggest tragedies to strike music since, maybe, John Lennon’s.  It also, coincidentally, happened (I believe) the day after his announcement to the general public of his infection.

His energy and light will truly be missed…Rock in Peace, Mr. Mercury…

Also, celebrating with you are/were; late Old West outlaw Jesse James (1847-1882), late Motion Picture President Jack Valenti (1921-2007), actor/comedian Bob Newhart (1929), actress/bombshell Raquel Welch (1940), former “Batman” Michael Keaton (1951), Audioslave/Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk (1968), guitarist/actor Dweezil Zappa (1969) and actress Rose McGowan was born in 1973.

See you next time…and, as always, thank you for reading; it sincerely means a lot to me…
