# CDXIII…Testament’s Vocalist’s Birthday…

As today, June 23rd, hadn’t previously been covered on the blog, I figured that I would relay my personal feelings as to why it again pains me that it hasn’t been…until now…

# xc…Fandom Fulfilled…

Today’s date, June 23rd, happens to be the birthday of one of my all-time favorites in the music industry; Testament vocalist Chuck Billy (1962), whose performance at the Roseland Ballroom in New York was one of four acts that closed the esteemed venue in 2013.  The reason that this man is on the list, however, is due to the fact that, when I was in my teens and 20’s, this man’s renowned vocal talents were among the very best that heavy metal had to offer.

The raspy nature of his voice was perfect for the genre and his vocal range is almost unmatched; he can hit you with high, fast-paced vocals and then kick your face with an almost-grunting haunt to it.  His work on the band’s 10 albums is a testament (sorry but pun actually intended) to the man’s dedication to his craft in spite of personal “demons”, like the sickness and subsequent regression of illnesses, tells you why his band is currently Number 6 on my personal Top Ten!

Many happy more to you, Sir…and it was a pleasure to have witnessed your glory live…

Also, celebrating this date with you are/were; late football owner Art Modell (1925-2012), late dancer/actor Bob Fosse (1927-1987), singer/actress June Carter Cash (1929-2003), late track star Wilma Rudolph (1940-1994), veteran actor Ted Shackleford (1946), judge/lawyer Clarence Thomas (1948) and rock legend Glenn Danzig was born in 1955.

On this list, as well, are/were; “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson (1956), actress Frances McDormand (1957), current uber-producer Josh Whedon (1964), actress Selma Blair (1972), soccer star Zinedine Zidane (1972), singer/songwriter KT Tunstall (1975) and former NFL star running back LaDainian Tomlinson was born in 1979.

Metal horns always up on June 23…see you next time…
