# CCCXII…For My Brother, Ed…

Dal's Music Note$

On this date in 1968, my brother Edward was born in Long Branch, NJ.  His presence in my life has been filled with nothing more than awe, as the man who is capable of solving major problems with his engineering-type energy…I mean, the man took an ordinary school bus and turned it into an RV (his home on wheels) with his own two hands!!!

He is one of many people whose skills I wished I possessed, as I figuratively have two left thumbs when it comes to things like that…Happy birthday, Ed…and many happy more!!!!

Also celebrating today are; late bandleader Duke Ellington (1899-1974), late actress Celeste Holm (1917-2012), the everlasting pothead himself, Willie Nelson (1933), late actor Lane Smith (1936-2005), modern pariah Bernie Madoff (1938), singer Tommy James (1947), and late racing master Dale Earnhardt (1951-2001).

Among the other twins for my brother are; comedian Jerry Seinfeld (1954), Star…

# CDIII…365 Days Later…

If you’ve been with me so far, and can remember back that far (which is sometimes VERY hard for me LOL), April 28, 2016 marks the one-year anniversary since I quit gambling of any kind (it’s hard to miss…I’ve been counting since Month 7, I believe) and I must say that things are starting to finally become crystal clear.  I really shouldn’t be announcing it but not all therapies are anonymous…and I’ve done pretty well for a former alum of G.A. but haven’t been to a meeting in about twenty years.

This past year’s abstinence, however, is just me and my will power (seems I have a lot more than I give myself credit for, to be honest).  I have had instances where I was presented with cards containing my nemeses (plural of nemesis) but, according to the “rulebook”, I had not purchased them so the streak is intact!  The Powers-That-Be seemed to have blessed me in ways I cannot describe…I am truly starting to believe (finally) that this is my calling (I’ve wanted to be a writer for years, mind you…it was only four short years ago that I found my way to World Wide Web!)

With a little bit of luck and a lot more blessings, we’ll continue this wonderful abstinence conversation later…in the meantime, please enjoy this little tidbit from my “project”…

# lxi…Favorite TV Show Memories…

On this date, April 28th, actress Kari Wuhrer was born in 1967.  The reason that this name means so much to me is because of her prevalence in my life of television watching.  More specifically her first starring role, on MTV’s “Remote Control”, and her three years of playing Maggie Beckett on the hit TV show, “Sliders”, which were during my late 20’s and early 30’s.

With an almost 30 year career under her belt, you have probably seen her in a lot of the B-movies and TV shows that are as diverse as they are in numbers.  She is also a voice-over actress as well as a singer.  Her three year run at the end of “Sliders” was filled with her great acting range, from anger and happiness, to heartache and despair, with such grace as only she could provide in the role.

Also celebrating today are; late auto magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993), late “The Addams Family” matriarch Carolyn Jones (1930-1983), late global despot Saddam Hussein (1937-2006), actress/dancer Ann-Margret (1941), actor/former talk show host Jay Leno (1950) and news anchorwoman Rosanna Scotto (popular in metropolitan area) was born in 1958.

Today is also the birthdate of; former baseball superstar Barry Larkin (1964), Insane Clown Posse’s Violent J (1972), actress Penelope Cruz (1974), former New Orleans Saints’ Scott Fujita (1979), former wrestler Alex Riley (1981) and the always stunning Jessica Alba was born in 1981.

Thanks for coming…I should be back tomorrow…big day tomorrow is…

# CDII…DING! Level 45!!!

On this date, in Long Branch, NJ in 1971 (same hospital as Clint Black LOL), I was born into this world…for better or worse…and, although many of you youngsters out there may consider me an old-timer, I like to think of myself as more experienced!  Considering the facts that I have completed my first (hopefully not last) book and I am soon to hold a registered trademark, I think I am doing pretty okay.

While I’m here, I might as well thank my beautiful daughters, whose 24 and 16 years, respectively, with me on this orb have provided my life with the “silver linings” to my dark clouds!  My family, whose praises I sing on this blog all the time, have also been an integral part of why I’m still doing this…faith means everything, considering my own faith in myself is tainted at times LOL.

As with all of the dates that I’ve covered here, if you look in my archives on whichever device your using and feel free to browse…I’ve covered this date at least twice and I am a little pressed for time on this post, as I do have a career to attend to!

Thank you for coming and, as always…

# CDI…RIP in Heaven, Year One; Fred Johnson (1964-2015)…

As many of you already know, if you’ve followed this blog since the beginning, this date of April 17th would have been the 52nd birthday of my late brother Fred Johnson, who was unceremoniously taken from us this past August.  Rather than dwell on the memories that have been lost due to the unfortunate, I would just like to make a few statements on the man’s presence on life in general.

My brother was always the optimist and, unless you really did something to earn his ire, he never had a bad word about anyone.  He had been a great father (as made evident by his children’s actions and behavior), a wonderfully uplifting friend (just ask the many non-family members whose lives he’s touched) and a brother that I wouldn’t have traded anything for.  Most of the posts on this blog would not have happened if it weren’t for life experiences that I’ve had while being in his enlightening company…with all of the concerts that we’d been through and his almost similar eclectic taste in music that we shared, I have millions of fond memories that will leave a giant impression on my writings for years to come.

On a side note, it is also the birthday of a former co-worker (who’s been mentioned here before…Happy birthday, Suzana) and, on an odd timeline coincidence, his birthday also coincides with the release date for the Ford Mustang (“born” on April 17, 1964).  It is because of things like this that I am still trying to go forward despite all of the heartbreaking events, as he never would have settled for idling.

Always and forever in our hearts…we love you and miss you, Big Brother and ROCK IN PEACE!!!

As this site has been a place for celebrity birthdays, today’s date is no exception; late journalist Harry Reasoner (1923-1991), “Miami Vice” theme composer Jan Hammer (1948), late wrestling icon “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (1954-2015), New York-born southpaw quarterback Boomer Esiason (1961), former NHL great Ken Daneyko (1964) and Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan was born on the same date as my brother, as well (1964).

Former baseball talent Marquis Grissom (1967), singer Liz Phair (1967), rapper/actor Redman (1970), talented actress Jennifer Garner (1972), singer Victoria Beckham (formerly Posh Spice) was born in 1974 and actress Rooney Mara (most notable from the American version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) celebrates her 31st today (1985).

With this first post for my brother, post-mortem, out of the way, you might see me tomorrow (because it’s been covered before…) but, if not, you will definitely find me here on Tuesday…don’t know why LOL…

# CCCVIII…”The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”…

Dal's Music Note$

Today’s birthday post is about the man that has adopted the above as his own personal moniker in TNA Wrestling, Austin Aries, who was born on this date in 1978.  The main reason that Austin Aries deserves this post is because, after his birthday last year, I noticed that he is one of very few left-handed wrestlers (yeah, I know about John Cena and “The Miz”, Mike Mizanin).

Being that he is also a member of my birth sign (the tattoo of the Chinese symbol for “Aries” on his left arm is a beautiful thing), he really personifies our nature; in the ring, he is tenacious to the point of exhaustion with a fiery, explosive demeanor that is unmatched by anyone.  A multi-time X Division, former TNA World Heavyweight Champion and a former Tag Team champ, he is a Triple Crown winner in TNA that is a real pleasure and…

# CD (400!!!!)…For My Cousin, Harold…An Excerpt!

The following monumental title on this date, April 12th, is a cause for celebration…not only the birthday of one of my cousins…a date that has also not been covered here (I did the research LOL)…that notwithstanding, I present to all of you the following presentation from my “project” (still fishing…)

# liv…My Wedding Song Singer…

Today, April 12th, aside from being a relative’s birthday (my cousin, Harold Baker), is also the birthday of country legend Vince Gill (1957), who just happens to be the singer of the song that was the choice of mine and, as a shock, my ex-wife JoAnn to be our “wedding song”; the country classic, “Look At Us”.  Prior to that, he was a member of the country rock band Pure Prairie League in the 70s.

He is a singer that, for that genre, is unmistakable…and his longevity in the business is what proves that, as the man has been making country hits since his debut with the Pure Prairie League in 1979 (when I was only eight years old…but I remember them, as I grew up on country music!) before becoming a highly successful solo artist beginning in 1984.

Mr. Gill has also won numerous country music awards and is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry…a high praise that he deserves and merits all because of his magical voice and musical talent.  It is on his birthday that we honor him…a date that, because of the association of my personal life, I should be able to remember on a whim forever…

Others born on this date include; late southpaw novelty act Tiny Tim (1932-1996), 80’s hit “Rockit” artist Herbie Hancock (1940), former “Married: With Children” patriarch Ed O’Neill (1946), late author Tom Clancy (1947-2013), comedian/retired talk show host David Letterman (1947), former heartthrob David Cassidy (1950) and actor/director Andy Garcia (1956).

Actress Shannon Doherty (1971), frontman for the band 311, Nick Hexum (1971) and actress Claire Daines (1979) also share this date…

# CCCXCIX…For A Former Co-Worker, Part I…

Today, April 10th, marks the date on the calendar celebrated by my former workmate, Ayesha Smith, whose light permeated my life from the time she started until I left the place in 2010 (I later found out that she too had jumped from that ship and found something more worthwhile).  I also found out later that she had become a member of the maternal community, which I must congratulate her for, as she was always the type that you could just sense great things from.

Happy birthday, Ayesha…and many happy more!!!!

If you should also be celebrating today as your birthday, you’re not alone; late actor (“M*A*S*H”) Harry Morgan (1915-2011), late actor Chuck Connors (1921-1992), late entertainer Sheb Woolley {“The Purple People Eater”} (1921-2003), late wrestling patriarch (father of Randy “Macho Man” Savage and “The Genius” Lanny Poffo) Angelo Poffo (1925-2010) and veteran actor Max von Sydow was born in 1929.

Late actor Omar Sharif (1932-2015), sportscasters John Madden (1936) and the late Don Meredith (1938-2010), Jamaican singer/drummer Bunny Wailer (1947), baseball father Ken Griffey, Sr. (1950), martial arts actor Steven Seagal (1952), late wrestling manager Paul Bearer {The Undertaker’s former leader} (1954-2013), actor Peter MacNicol (1954) and musical singer/producer Babyface was born in 1959.

Finishing today’s list are; former Stray Cats (and his ‘Orchestra’) frontman Brian Setzer (1959), “Walkin’ On Sunshine” singer Katrina Leskanich {from Katrina and the Waves} (1960), rapper/producer/actor Q-Tip (1970), actress Mandy Moore (1984), actor Hayley Joel Osment (1988) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” heroine Daisy Ridley was born in 1992.

I should be back in a couple days…the reposts should be at a minimum this month…but, as always and until the circle-R is in effect…
