Today’s entry in my blog is to honor the GREATEST player to ever don a New Orleans Saints’ uniform; former running back Deuce McAllister (1978). As the current franchise leader in rushing attempts, total yards AND touchdowns, he will always be remembered in the Crescent City as an unusual commodity in the business of the NFL, as he didn’t play for any other team except his “hometown” team (he was born in Mississippi, which is close enough to N.O.)!
His career, which spanned from 2001 to 2009, for that short of a time span, is actually pretty astonishing; 1429 carriers for 6096 yards with 49 touchdowns is nothing short of stellar, considering at the time, he played on a subpar team that was just beginning to gel.
After suffering injuries to his knees (right knee, 2005 and left knee, 2007), however, he made the decision to step away from the game (deservedly so) after the end of the Super Bowl-winning 2009 season. Although he didn’t play in the game, he was our honorary captain AND he does have a Ring!
Happy birthday, Deuce…and many happy more!!!!
As well as Deuce, actor John Amos, who starred in “Good Times”, was born in 1939, journalist Cokie Roberts (1943), Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones (1944), brilliant French actor Gerard Depardieu was born in 1948, Dire Straits co-founder and former rhythm guitarist David Knopfler was born in 1952 and King’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill joined the population in 1957.
Also celebrating today are; former WCW/WWE star Bill Goldberg (1966), “CSI: Miami”s vivacious Eva LaRue (1966), former Degeneration X member (WWE, people…sorry, big wrestling buff) Chyna (1970), Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (1979) and sultry diva Hayley Williams of Paramore turns 27 today (1988).
I don’t know how many more posts there will be for this year…all I do know is that it’s been a truly wonderful year for me and my blog…for that, I thank you all, as the End of the Year address is coming…STAY TUNED!!!
