# CCCLXXVI…San Jose Southpaw, Dave Righetti…

Today, November 28th, is the birthday of former New York Yankees’ southpaw Dave Righetti (1958), who is the current pitching coach for the San Francisco Giants’ (which is very close to his hometown, my “sister” city of San Jose, California).  He was a former pitcher, however, and shares a very personal memory of my 44-year-old lifetime…as a memory of walking in Jersey City, as a former Yankee fan, and reading the papers on the day after he pitched a no-hitter against my now-favored Boston Red Sox.

It was on July 4, 1983…he became the first Yankee southpaw since 1917 to pitch a no-hitter and the first pitcher to throw one against the Red Sox (continuing the rivalry stats).  In an odd note, I recall that the last out of that game was a strikeout to former Yankees’ third baseman Wade Boggs (who, oddly enough, defected from the Sox and won his first championship with our nemesis.)

Also born on this date are/were; Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Jr. (1929), late actress Hope Lange (1933-2003), fashion mogul Manolo Blahnik (1942), singer/songwriter Randy Newman (1943), veteran actor Joe Dante (1946), legendary bandleader Paul Shaffer (1949) and superstar actor Ed Harris was born in 1950.

In conclusion, “The Breakfast Club”‘s Judd Nelson (1959), talk show host Jon Stewart (1962), late actress Anna Nicole Smith (1967-2007) and former Xandria (symphonic metal giants…saw them live…they were awesome!!!) vocalist Lisa Middlehauve was born in 1980.

More coming…promise…just been working on bigger stuff (details forthcoming)…
