# CCCLXXVI…San Jose Southpaw, Dave Righetti…

Today, November 28th, is the birthday of former New York Yankees’ southpaw Dave Righetti (1958), who is the current pitching coach for the San Francisco Giants’ (which is very close to his hometown, my “sister” city of San Jose, California).  He was a former pitcher, however, and shares a very personal memory of my 44-year-old lifetime…as a memory of walking in Jersey City, as a former Yankee fan, and reading the papers on the day after he pitched a no-hitter against my now-favored Boston Red Sox.

It was on July 4, 1983…he became the first Yankee southpaw since 1917 to pitch a no-hitter and the first pitcher to throw one against the Red Sox (continuing the rivalry stats).  In an odd note, I recall that the last out of that game was a strikeout to former Yankees’ third baseman Wade Boggs (who, oddly enough, defected from the Sox and won his first championship with our nemesis.)

Also born on this date are/were; Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Jr. (1929), late actress Hope Lange (1933-2003), fashion mogul Manolo Blahnik (1942), singer/songwriter Randy Newman (1943), veteran actor Joe Dante (1946), legendary bandleader Paul Shaffer (1949) and superstar actor Ed Harris was born in 1950.

In conclusion, “The Breakfast Club”‘s Judd Nelson (1959), talk show host Jon Stewart (1962), late actress Anna Nicole Smith (1967-2007) and former Xandria (symphonic metal giants…saw them live…they were awesome!!!) vocalist Lisa Middlehauve was born in 1980.

More coming…promise…just been working on bigger stuff (details forthcoming)…

# CCCLXXV…For Irenne and John M…

Today, on this chilly November 24th morning, is the birth date of two people who’ve had a profound effect on my life; my ex-sister-in-law, Irenne, and my nephews good friend, John M. (name is shortened due to its’ uniqueness and to protect the innocent LOL).

As it stands, they are two lights in my life that I cannot fathom being without; Irenne’s presence due to her steadfastness in all her actions and John’s because, as they say, laughter is the cure-all and, without his sense of humor and wit, live would be boring without people like him.

I hope that you both have a beautiful and happy birthday…

As for your twins, the list includes; late New York mayor John Lindsay (1921-2000), late author William F. Buckley, Jr. (1925-2008), late San Francisco mayor George Moscone (1929-1978), former NFL commissioner (and Jersey City native) Paul Tagliabue (1940) and former drummer for The Beatles, Pete Best, was born in 1941.

Late bass player for The Blues Brothers, Donald “Duck” Dunn (1941-2012), late serial killer Ted Bundy (1946-1989), former “The A-Team” co-star Dwight Schultz (1947), actress Denise Crosby (1957), actor Brad Sherwood (1964), actor and famous scion Colin Hanks (1977), actress Katherine Heigl (1978), wrestler Beth Phoenix (1980) and current New York Jets’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was born in 1982.

Happy birthday to all celebrating and, until next time…

# CCLIV…”Joy” To The World…and Somberness…

On this 22nd day of November, I come to you with a post about not only the anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination but of the tale of the birth of my cousin, Joy Creegan.  I could bore you with stories (if I could remember vividly enough LOL) of our past…childhood memories that will always be cherished, being part of the loving family aspect in a different time, etc. but I think that I will keep, honor and cherish those for myself.

However, I would like to add that, without her (and my other cousins, aunts, uncles, and so on), I wouldn’t be sitting here recalling a glorious time on this hobby and educating the masses…happy birthday, Joy…and many happy more!!!!

As for your birthday twins, there is quite a list…late comedian Rodney Dangerfield (1921-2004), former Boston/Milwaukee Braves’ pitcher Lew Burdette {who I only mention because he is directly related to my former boss} (1926-2007), veteran actor Robert Vaughn (1932), Monty Python alumnus Terry Gilliam (1940), tennis superstar Billie Jean King (1943), and the bass player for Bob Marley & The Wailers, Aston Barrett, was born in 1946.

The guitarist for Bruce Spingsteen’s E-Street Band, Mr. Steven van Zandt (1950), former Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club bassist Tina Weymouth (1950), award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis (1958), actress Mariel Hemingway (1961), tennis champ Boris Becker (1967), and the sultry Scarlett Johansson was born in 1984.

Be back Monday…my “fans” may know why…

# CCCLXXIV…VACATION LOGUE: Supplemental…Maggie’s Birthday…

Being that I haven’t covered November 19th before, I just wanted to say that, in addition to the following list of celebrity twins, it is also the birth date of my cousin, Maggie Johnson…who, throughout my childhood, was a pivotal part of my upbringing.  Her easy-going nature, however, does not include her being a “pushover”, as she’s anything but…

As I was growing up, her presence (and the presence of my second cousins) in my life had a profound effect on me…as her never-say-die attitude was so infectious that I have adapted it in my lifestyle.  I would like to wish my dear, sweet cousin many happy more and a Happy Birthday in 2015!

On her list of twins are/were; late bandleader Tommy Dorsey (1905-1956), late political leader Indira Gandhi (1917-1984), ‘Wilbur’ from “Mister Ed”, Mr. Alan Young (1919), former talk show host Larry King (1933), former TV personality Dick Cavett (1936), cable television mogul Ted Turner (1938), ‘Grizzly Adams’ actor Dan Haggerty (1941), fashion designer Calvin Klein (1942) and former NFL star-turned-broadcaster Ahmad Rashad was born in 1949.

“The West Wing” co-star Allison Janney (1959), late wrestling manager Miss Elizabeth (1960-2003), former Guns N Roses drummer Matt Sorum (1960), former Atlanta Falcons/Seattle Seahawks coach Jim L. Mora (1961), actress Meg Ryan (1961), superstar actress Jodie Foster (1962), “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” co-star Terry Farrell (1963), Newark, NJ tap dancing legend Savion Glover (1973), Olympic medal-winning gymnast Kerri Strug (1977) and NHL phenom Patrick Kane was born in 1988.

Maybe next year, I will showcase Kerri Strug, as I have the newspaper (still!) from the day after the Olympic victory…until then, as always…

# CCLII…Kirk Hammett…Among Others…

Dal's Music Note$

Today, November 18th (aside from being my nephew’s and a close friend’s birthday), is the 53rd birthday of Metallica’s lead guitarist Kirk Hammett.  While memories of his exquisite mastery of his craft flood my mind, I am immediately brought back to the first song featuring his guitar prowess…”Creeping Death” from before they went commercial.

As I was into commercial “pop” music at that time, I really didn’t appreciate the intricacies of that particular song…it features (easily) some of the best lead/rhythm guitar work that the band has produced.  This doesn’t even begin to tell you that the song that hooked me with the band was for their first video, “One”…which, if you haven’t heard, either, it is a brilliant piece that Kirk and his band mates really raised the bar for metal at that time.

To Mr. Hammett, who I met with the band in 1993, many happy more…Also, to…

# CCCLXXIII…Vacation Logue:  Supplemental…

Since I haven’t posted since the 3rd and I am on vacation from work this week, I wanted to pop in and return to my Comfort Zone.  Just to inform you all, the almost two week hiatus has provided me with the means to make wonderful progress on my book and assist in the moving with my family to our new digs.

I am very proud of the fact that I am nearing the “finish line” and, with a little more patience and perseverance, I hope to have something ready before the year ends…

As I don’t really see many names on the list for a post today, I figured that I would let you all know that, with this latest hiatus behind me and a whole week of downtime, I will be here more (I can’t forget “I have a rep to protect”…)

For now and, until next time…

# CCCLXXII…NFL Small World, East Coast/West Coast…

November 3rd, for those that are unaware, is the birthday of two elite NFL quarterbacks…former New York Giants’ legend Phil Simms (1955) and upstart Niners’ QB Colin Kaepernick (1987).  This fact, although probably not known by many (save me, because I love the “small world” aspect) has no bearing on anyone but I feel that it’s worth mentioning.

The reason that I’ve mentioned it though is due to the fact that, barring a free agent move or trade, both QBs have been with their respective teams for their entire careers (Simms, Giants 1979-1993; Kaepernick, 49ers 2011-Present).  Although Mr. Simms won two Super Bowls to Kaepernick’s none (yet), the West Coaster still has yet to shine; although rushing for over a hundred yards in a postseason game outshines his elder.

Also celebrating on this Early November day are/were; late MLB hurler Bob Feller (1918-2010), late action star Charles Bronson (1921-2003), actor/singer Ken Berry (1933), “Golgo 13” creator Takao Saito (1936), pugilist Larry Holmes (1949), comedienne/actress Roseanne Barr (1952) and voice acting legend Jim Cummings was born in 1952.

In addition, twins include; comedian/talk show host Dennis Miller (1953), singer Adam Ant (1954), actor Dolph Lundgren (1957), DJ/musician Robert Miles (1969), Slipknot’s # Seven, guitarist Mick Thompson (1973) and model Kendall Jenner was born in 1995.

Thanks again for coming…if it weren’t for your continued viewing, I wouldn’t be here…
