# CCCXLII…Not a One-Hit Wonder…Featuring Afroman!

On this slow birthday list, one name pops out…July 28th is the birthday of rapper Afroman (born Joseph Foreman, 1974).  The title of my post refers, of course, to his hit track, “Because I Got High”.  While his music is not my genre to cover, I did find out that (naturally) he’s been active since 1992, when he started selling homemade songs to classmates.

It was the title track to his second album listed above that really propelled his career, which has led to 15 albums releases, touring with acts like Cypress Hill, Method Man, Insane Clown Posse and the like.  Also, as it turns out (and something I have to look for), he had released a remix of “Because I Got High” last year, as sort of a “pro-marijuana” song instead of the original’s “slacker” connotations.

Smoke ’em if you got ’em, Afroman…we will in your honor!!!

Also born on this slow day are/were; late author Beatrix Potter (1866-1943), late inventor Earl Tupper {“Tupperware” creator} (1907-1983), late First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994), voice actor (“Optimus Prime”) Peter Cullen (1941), “Garfield” creator Jim Davis (1945), actress Sally Struthers (1947) and late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (1954-2013).

Finishing the list are; actress Lori Loughlin (1964), UFC president Dana White (1969), Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott (1970) and former New Jersey Devils’ left wing, Zach Parise was born in 1984.

Enjoy your day, everyone…I will be back at some point…

# CCCXLI…Known for a Historic Birth…

On this date in 1978, a woman name Louise Brown was born.  The reason that this is of importance is due to the fact that, when I was seven, her birth was of MAJOR significance, as she was the first baby to be born in a test-tube.  At the time, I didn’t really understand the concept of birth like I do now (being a father twice) and I can pretty much tell you from being alive back then that the religious zealots were up in arms over this.

Being that they still cannot contain their differences, her birth probably advanced modern science to discover ways to tell the religious nuts that “if we can do this, the Bible be damned!” (not a personal opinion…I do not follow any religion, although I do believe in a higher power…{awaits lightning bolt nervously}).

I apologize for this short post…I am currently working feverishly on a side project AND doing research for next week’s Spotlight return…

Also, celebrating birthdays (before I forget)…Late “Golden Girls” co-star Estelle Getty (1923-2008), Rita Marley (widow of the Jamaican legend) was born in 1946, late football legend Walter Payton (1954-1999), actress/model Iman (1955), former baseball star Doug Drabek (1962), former New York Rangers’ (and San Jose Sharks’) left-wing Tony Granato (1964), former “Friends” co-star Matt LeBlanc (1967) and actress Amy Adams was born in 1979.

Thanks and I’ll be back…

# CCCXL…Milestone for The Boss…

No, today’s post doesn’t refer to George Steinbrenner…it refers to the 50th birthday of my current employer, Debbie Cross, who, as the owner of the company I’ve worked for these past five years, has been more than tolerant with me, insofar as my hobby is concerned; I’ve tried not to have it interfere with my career and have been okay with that so far.

She is a very no-nonsense person with very little patience for the people who try to get over, business-wise, and I am happy to post this on her honor, as I have nothing but respect and jealousy for her demeanor.

Wishing Debbie nothing more than best wishes today and many happy more!

As far as her “twins” go, she celebrates with; late actress Natalie Wood (1938-1981), former Minnesota Twins’ veteran Tony Oliva (1938), “Bette Davis Eyes” singer Kim Carnes (1945), guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana (1947), former Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French (1954) and late pitchman Billy Mays (1958-2009) also celebrate today.

Also on the list are; former Soundgarden and Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell (1964), actress/singer Vitamin C (1969), actor Omar Epps and former NHLer Peter Forsberg (1973) and “Mrs. Tom Brady”, model Giselle Bundchen was born in 1980.

# CCCXXXIX…A Very Somber RIP…

Yesterday, while the family and I were on our yearly excursion to RockStar Mayhem (which, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was not able to witness so no review this year) and were notified over social media that my great friend Michael Reinke’s Mother had passed away.  Although this may seem to many of you as a situation that should not affect me, you don’t know the reasons why it does and should!

You see, the night that my ex-wife gave me the boot, I had asked her (due to my close relationship with Mike) if she could accommodate me, as I attempted to rebuild my life.  She had shockingly agreed that night and, over the course of the next couple of months, she was the person that provided me with the necessary mental stability to move on and continue my existence.

All in all, it was seeing through her eyes on how hard life can be under the world’s surprises can push someone to keep moving forward and doing the absolute best that one can do in your environment.  My perception of the universe that night changed because of her continued perseverance in the face of adversity.  Her infectiously cynical views on life, though, are just some of the beautiful memories that this writer will always cherish.

My extremely heartfelt condolences go out to Michael and Kathleen (sorry if I haven’t mentioned anyone else there; my memory is shot and don’t recall any others), for your Mom’s light will truly be missed.  She is in a better place now and God has taken her pain…

Rest in Peace, Flo…01/14/41 – 07/17/15…

# CCCXXXVIII…”Riverdancing” Through the Day…

For those who don’t know, if July 16th is your birthday, you also celebrate with American dancing icon Michael Flatley (1958), who is the creator of the great Irish stepdancing shows like “Riverdance”, “Lord of the Dance” and “Feet of Flames”.  As I was with my ex-wife at the time that his second show (“Lord of the Dance”) came out, I had the honor of watching his wonderful productions with earnest.

A multitalented star (dancer, writer, choreographer AND flautist), his dancing combined with the intricate stage numbers and all of the Irish and American talents in the shows is the reason that he is on this blog today.  His latest show, entitled “Celtic Tiger” has been running since 2005; further cementing his longevity in the entertainment industry.

Wishing Mr. Flatley many happy more…

Also celebrating on this date (first time showcasing this date, by the way) are; late popcorn maker Orville Redenbacher (1907-1995), late actress Barbara Stanwyck (1909-1990), late dancer/actress Ginger Rogers (1911-1995), former football coach (and no relation) Jimmy Johnson (1943) and actor Rueben Blades was born in 1948.

Former drummer for The Police, Stuart Copeland (1952), 80s movie star Phoebe Cates (1963), ubiquitous comedian Will Ferrell (1967), former football star Barry Sanders (1968), Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger (1968), actor Corey Feldman (1971) and current TNA and former MMA star Bobby Lashley was born in 1976.

Here’s hoping that you all have a “dancing” good day…be back Saturday with RockStar Mayhem post (concert tomorrow in Camden)…

# CCXII…Number Two for Number 4…

Focused on Friday’s Mayhem concert…needed to post this week…

Dal's Music Note$

Today’s birthday spotlight falls on the shoulders of a multi-talented musician named Joe Satriani.  The title, in case you haven’t figured it out, is because he is my Number 4 favorite of all time (See Top 10 for that) and this is the second time (other than the Top 10) where he is involved.  Today is his 58th birthday and he is currently banging around with Sammy Hagar’s side project, Chickenfoot…as well as being a multi-platinum recording artist in his own right, with his mostly guitar instrumental releases.

A little side story to this is the fact that I saw him play live (with Dream Theater and King’s X at Jones Beach many moons ago) and, although I was familiar with his music before that show, seeing him perform live was another experience altogether.  He is still a brilliant musician who, hopefully, has a lot more in his tank to…

# CCCXXXVII…Number 31 for “Little Joe” (Sharks’ Joe Pavelski)…

As most of you know by now, I am a die-hard (since their inception) San Jose Sharks’ fan.  That having been said, it is my pleasure to introduce you all to one of our alternate captains; Center Joe Pavelski, who was born on July 11, 1984.  One of the main reasons I am speaking about him is because, for a man that has been on the team for almost ten seasons (2006), he has been an integral member of ONLY our team; in this day and age of “money talks” (free agency), he has stuck with us and continues to be a productive member of our team.

Also odd about the man is the fact that, although he’s been playing with the team since 2006, he is also a rarity…he was taken 205th overall in the 2003 draft.  That is only important if you understand the fact that, if you’re taken that low in the draft, your success rate usually tumbles.  With nine seasons under his belt, he has amassed 485 points (228 goals, 257 assists) and has been on two U.S. Olympics squads (2010, 2014).

Happy Birthday, Little Joe…and many happy more…

Also celebrating on “Free Slurpee Day” (at the 7-11 chain of stores are; late actor Yul Brenner (1920-1985), late “The Odd Couple” (original 70’s version) and “Match Game” star Brett Somers (1924-2007), actor/singer Tab Hunter (who appeared as “Mr. Stuart” in Grease 2) {1931}, The Pointer Sisters’ Bonnie Pointer (1950) and boxer Leon Spinks was born in 1953.

Retired WCW wrestling star Butch Reed (1954), actress Sela Ward (1956), Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and singer Suzanne Vega (1959), actress Lisa Rinna (1963), late Bonham vocalist Daniel McMaster {blogged about in 2013 on this date} (1968-2008), former “Smallville” villain Michael Rosenbaum (1972), rapper Lil’ Kim (1975) and WWE superstar Tyson Kidd was born in 1980.

Thanks for coming and enjoy your free Slurpees (if you have a 7-11 in your neighborhood)…
