# CCCXXV…Milestone Reached (Post # 300)…

Being that this is my 300th post on this blog address @ dalsmusicnotes.com, it pleases me that it couldn’t be for a more talented star, “Pirates of the Caribbean” (among others…which I will get to in a moment) star Johnny Depp, who was born on this date in 1963.

{Author’s interlude:  Today would have been a better post, milestone-wise, for the late Les Paul’s 100th birthday…but I figured that, even though I write a lot about music, very few people would have a clue as to who he was!}

When Mr. Depp first arrived on the Hollywood scene, in 1987, in a little-known show called “21 Jump Street”, I was a sixteen-year-old, anti-heartthrob and hated everything that this man touched.  From “21 Jump Street” to roles such as the bumbling Captain Jack Sparrow and everything in between, this man has made a “fan” out of me.

Don’t get me wrong…certain roles haven’t tickled my fancy, either.  His portrayal of Willy Wonka was downright atrocious (I am sorry but the original and Gene Wilder were SOOOO much better), his portrayal of director Ed Wood was a questionable role and, although I’ve never seen the original Dark Shadows TV show, I’m sure he was not the perfect choice for that role.

With the controversial paragraph out of the way, on to why he DOES belong here; some of the movies that I’ve enjoyed him in were:  Edward Scissorhands, The Ninth Gate, From Hell, Secret Window (awesome one, right there), Alice in Wonderland, and, of course, The Lone Ranger.  As the man that is currently one of the richest actors in the world, I wish nothing but the best for Mr. Depp, especially in his future endeavors.

Happy birthday wishes are also being sent for; Les Paul, electric guitar inventor (1915-2009), the late, great Jackie Wilson (1934-1984), comedian Jackie Mason (1936), basketball commentator/coach supreme Dick Vitale (1939), comedian Michael J. Fox (1961), former soccer star Eric Wynalda (1969), former New England Patriots’ great Tedy Bruschi (1973), the voluptuous Natalie Portman was born in 1981 and former Minnesota Timberwolves’ star (native New Yorker AND Stephon Marbury’s cousin) Sebastian Telfair was born in 1985.
