Today, March 1, is the celebration for the 71st (love that number) birthday of The Who frontman, Roger Daltry, born on this date in 1944 (same age as my Mom will be). An accomplished vocalist and Hall of Famer, Mr. Daltry is also a well-known actor and frequently-seen when I was growing up. In particular, he played the villainous Colonel Angus Rickman in my favorite show, Sliders, and also (different character) in the awesome science fiction series, Highlander: The Series.
Since his career predates the “Hippie” generation (started his career in 1959), his works with The Who are clearly prevalent for the “Internet” generation at the start of all of the episodes of any CSI television show, including the newest installment, CSI: Cyber, and the original CSI: New York, whose “Baba O’Reilly” was magnificently sung by my daughter Erin at her school (talk about a proud father!)
A distinguished gentlemen from across the pond, we wish Mr. Daltry many happy more birthdays…
Today is also the birthday of; late English actor David Niven (1910-1983), former sportscaster Harry Caray (1914-1998), singer Harry Belafonte (1927), actor Robert Conrad (1935), former co-star of The A-Team and Battlestar Galactica, Dirk Benedict (1945) and former Growing Pains patriarch Alan Thicke was born in 1947.
Ms. Daisy Duke herself, Catherine Bach, was born in 1954, as was former child actor-turned-director Ron Howard, current Carolina Hurricanes’ GM and former NHL star Ron Francis (1963), former WCW/WWE champion and current broadcaster Booker T was born in 1965, NBA star Chris Webber (1973), Saved by the Bell‘s Mark-Paul Gosselaar (1974) and Supernatural (and former Smallville) star Jensen Ackles was born in 1978.
Finishing the list (and they are a weird combo to put together but are placed this way due to chronology only) are WWE superstar Big E Langston (1986), singer Kesha (1987) and the hideously ubiquitous southpaw Justin Beiber (1994).
