# CCLXXXII…Vacation Logue, Part 2…In Memoriam: Cliff Burton, Metallica (1962-1986)…

Today would have been the 53rd birthday of one of the greatest bass guitarists of the modern era; the late, great Cliff Burton of Metallica.  If you’ve been following this blog, you would know that I’ve made mention that he was the second bassist for the band, as a man named Ron McGovney had not been with the band when their first album, Kill ’em All, was released.  After the release and subsequent success of the album, Cliff Burton became an iconic part of the band’s makeup, which, in my humble opinion, might have been different in an alternate universe; we don’t know what might have happened if the tour bus in Sweden hadn’t crashed, killing the then 24-year old maestro.

A light that was truly taken from us way too soon…RIP Cliff Burton, February 10, 1962-September 27, 1986…

Also, celebrating today as their birthday are; veteran actor Robert Wagner (1930), singer-songwriter Roberta Flack (1937), late pianist/actor Peter Allen, whom the musical “The Boy from Oz” is based on (1944-1992), medal-winning swimmer Mark Spitz (1950), golf legend Greg Norman (1955) and journalist George Stephanopoulous was born in 1961.

Former New York Met (and Philadelphia Phillies’) outfielder Lenny “Nailz” Dykstra was born in 1963, journalist Glenn Beck (1964), actress Laura Dern (1967), late ECW wrestler Louie Spicolli (d. 1998) and former TNA/WWE women’s champ Lisa Marie Varon (WWE-Victoria; TNA-Tara) were both born in 1971, Puerto Rican sensation Don Omar (1978), Pierce the Veil singer Vic Fuentes was born in 1983 and Chloe Grace Moretz, who starred in films such as the remake of Carrie and in the Kick-Ass movies, turns 18 today (1997).

Until next time from the left…
