I knew from yesterday that I wanted to write tonight…partially because I scanned my list of birthdays yesterday…and an unbelievable name popped up on the radar. The world-renowned pianist Yanni was born on this day in 1954; the only reason that his name strikes a chord with me is that his music is usually instrumental (lots of orchestration, too, as he is a beautiful composer) and very soothing and relaxing to listen to.
His music is valuable to me in more ways than one; I first heard about him through Channel 13’s annual fund drive…his live DVD, “Yanni Live At The Acropolis” is a brilliant piece of musical poetry. Musically, there is no one that I’d rather listen to more when I’m in the mood to write. I find his music creatively inspires me and it is in his honor that, if you were born today, you now know of at least one celebrity that you share a birthday with.
Also, since I may as well finish the list: James Young (guitarist, Styx) turns 64 today (1949), drummer Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot and WASP was born in 1951, as well as Bon Jovi bassist Alec John Such, diplomat Condoleezza Rice (1954), retired baseball pitching great Curt Schilling was born on today’s date in 1966, and Blink-182’s Travis Barker turns 38 (1975).
Thank you for listening to this rant from the left…
