# CCXXV…Yaz’s 75th…

For those of you that don’t know, I have been a Red Sox fan since 2003 (when the Yankees’ broadcasters egos made me feel that I didn’t belong following them anymore).  With that having been said, it gives me great pleasure to announce the milestone 75th birthday of one of “our” greatest players, Mr. Carl Yastrzemski, who was born on this date in 1939.  As any Red Sox fan will tell you, he is one of the most prolific players to ever grace a Sox uniform, as his Hall of Fame stats prove.  Not only that but he was one of the rare players to have spent his 23 year career with our team and, unfortunately, did not taste a World Series victory.  Also, he was the last to hit for baseball’s Triple Crown before Miguel Cabrera in 2012.

Happy birthday, Yaz…and many happy more…

Also on today’s list are legendary guitarist John Lee Hooker (1917-2001), late science fiction guru Ray Bradbury (1920-2012), former Giants’ coach Bill Parcells (1941), “Shirley” of Laverne and Shirley, Cindy Williams was born in 1947, along with Beach Boys’ guitarist David Marks (1948) and guitarist Vernon Reid of the band Living Color was born in 1958.

Finishing the list are former Bangles drummer Debbi Peterson (1961), singer Tori Amos (1963), late Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley (1967-2002) {subject of last year’s August 22 post}, Jamaican rap star Beenie Man (1973), and current New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans was born in 1983.
