# CXLII…Post # 100…Christmas/Birthday Greetings…

We are here, at Christmas 2013, and not everything is as perfect as we’d expect it to be.  Political scandals, climate issues (anyone notice how cold it was in Denver this past month?), people losing their minds and becoming martyrs for some cause or another, etc. are just some of the burning pressure points that we still have to deal with, in this society that should have been more advanced by now (at least, so we had assumed back in the day).  Notwithstanding the fact that today is “supposed” to be one of the most festive of holidays, Christmas has become a “how much can you spend on your loved ones”-day, as most of the other “holidays” have now been relegated to.  And that, plain and simply put, is what’s wrong with our society as a whole…

Being that I’m here, I would like to wish a Happy 43rd birthday to my brother-in-law, Steve Houmis, who is one of the key factors in the fact that I’m celebrating this, my 100th post, with you, my fellow readers.  It is for his honor (and everyone else who is lucky/unlucky enough to be born today) that I present the “Christmas/Birthday” list…

The mega-talented Humphrey Bogart was born on this date in 1899…here’s lookin’ at you, kid…(1899-1957); singer/bandleader Cab Calloway (“Minnie the Moocher” singer) {1907-1994}; late Egyptian president Anwar Sadat (mentioned due to his prevalence in my historical upbringing) {1918-1981}; “The Twilight Zone” creator Rod Serling (1924-1975); former “What’s Happening!!” matriarch Mabel King (1932-1999); former Oakland Raider/Houston Oiler (and Saints) QB Ken Stabler (1945); and, in an odd twist in 1946, both football great Larry Csonka and singer/entertainer Jimmy Buffett (“Margaritaville”, anyone? LOL) were born.

Also, country superstar Barbara Mandrell (70’s country diva) was born in 1948, actress Sissy Spacek (better known as the original “Carrie”) was born in 1949, The Eurythmics’ frontwoman Annie Lennox (1954), country sensation Steve Wariner (1954), veteran baseball phenom Rickey Henderson (1958), retired NHL journeyman Jim Dowd (1968) and music star Dido (who was featured in Eminem’s “Stan”) was born in 1971.

As we unwrap the festivities on this joyous of holidays, I would like to wish all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and bright wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year…
