# CXVIII…Major Anniversary Post…

As the title implicates, this is the post that I discussed a couple of days ago…as the sort-of “year-end review” to this blog.  For the next few minutes, I will be informing you of a couple of newer releases that have hit the airwaves since August 2012.  I also mentioned a few days ago that I really speak about what acts are truly in my collection so, if they’re not your speed, keep reading as you never know who you might like…

In no particular order…

1) Amon Amarth-“Deceiver of the Gods” — Release Date:  June 25, 2012

This album was added to my collection just after I saw them perform at Mayhem (Post # 107 {CVII}).  The band itself has been around since my daughter Mena was born in 1992 and has been kicking major ass with their unique blend of “Viking metal” since then.  This album truly is a masterpiece, filled with nothing but great, melodic tracks that will have you throwing up Viking horns all the time.  Key tracks are, of course, the title track, as well as “Shape Shifter”, “Coming of the Tide”, and “Hel” (featuring ex-Candlemass frontman Messiah Marcolin).  This is a definite must for all headbangers, as it will knock you senseless with its’ simplicity (by metal standards).

2) Black Sabbath-“13” — Release Date:  June 11, 2012

If this newest addition to the Black Sabbath discography is not in your collection, you should be ashamed.  Most of my family actually went to see their most recent performance (which included original members Ozzy Osbourne, southpaw legend Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler, along with former Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave drummer Brad Wilk) and had nothing but super rave reviews.  The band’s first release since 1995’s “Forbidden”, this album is filled with beautiful tracks, such as the ever-popular “God is Dead?”, “End of the Beginning”, and “Methademic” (which is on the deluxe release)…you will be glad when you add it to your collection!

3)  Newsted-“Heavy Metal Music” — Release Date:  August 6, 2013

Now, if you know rock and metal like I do, you’ll immediately know the frontman for this group…it is the debut album from former Metallica/Flotsam & Jetsam bassist Jason Newsted, who (contrary to popular belief) actually has released a beautiful piece of musical genius.  As many of you may already know, as well, he is not limited to his bass playing…he is actually the lead singer of his group (goes without saying but I said it) and does a phenomenal job on this album.  Key tracks include “Soldierhead” (awesome riffs in here), “Kindevillusion”, “Twisted Tail of the Comet” (which, I believe, is a tribute song although I cannot find out about the song just yet), the gloomy “Nocturnus” (killer track!!!!)…it should be on your radar, as far as great music is concerned.

4)  Butcher Babies-“Goliath” — Release Date:  July 9, 2013

This stellar, up-and-coming addition to the screamo collection takes its’ name from women’s metal pioneer Wendy O. Williams song “Butcher Baby”…and for good reason.  Fronted by raspy comic book author Carla Harvey and the equally talented Heidi Shepherd, this latest entry into the expansion will knock you for a loop…and then, beat you with your own arms, smack you and say, “This is where it’s going and it’s AWESOME!”.  Having witnessed them live (@ Mayhem-again, Post # 107), I can say that they are a very unique band with a no-nonsense style that’s just wonderful for the business.  Fav. Tracks:  “Jesus Needs More Babies for His Little War Machine” (you’ll have to understand the lyrics to grasp it), “I Smell A Massacre”, “Axe Wound”, and the title track.

5)  Rob Zombie-“Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor” — Release Date:  April 23, 2013

[Author’s Note:  You all saw this one coming.]

Again, after finally witnessing this legend’s music live, I can honestly tell you that, if you’re not into this music (shame on you), well, you really can’t appreciate the awesomeness that music brings to our lives.  The diversity that is generated by this man, specifically, is nothing short of twisted, demented, and guaranteed to shock you…and therein lies the beauty, because it’s not, as he put it in a previous track, “Sick Bubblegum”, that same-old evilly hypnotic “pop” music (ex.: One Direction, Brittany Spears, Justin Boob…I mean, Bieber, etc.)  Popular cuts from this include the song that led off the concert, “Teenage Nosferatu Pussy”, “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown”, and a cover of the Grand Funk Railroad classic, “We’re an American Band” (stellar cover live LOL).

To reiterate a point from an earlier post, I’m going to try and start making this more about the music…as I seem to be bursting with information that I feel I should share.  I will not apologize for anything, as I’ve been doing this for over a year now…and cannot say that I haven’t enjoyed EVERY second of it.

I would also like to thank you, my readers, for none of this would ever have been possible without your continued support for my pasttime!

  1. Awesome show. I really liked butcher babies. Personally I enjoyed Ffdp alot. Zombie was a bit flat but John 5 more than made up for it. Will do it again.

  2. Best post yet, turned me onto some good chit I otherwise wouldn’t have heard!
“I Smell a Massacre” sold me on them, should include a hyperlink to groups “Tube-Vids.”
